33rd EDITION OF THE JURIS’CUP
From 12 to 15 September 2024, the 33rd edition of the JURIS’CUP, Marseille’s iconic regatta, took place with more than a hundred boats, including 2 boats with the French Order of surveyors and ESGT students.
ALL IN THE WATER!
Once again, TERIA had the pleasure of bringing together Surveyors and ESGT students for a memorable regatta.
For 3 days, the programme included discovering sailing and surpassing oneself, in a sporting and friendly atmosphere on the Olympic waters of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games
The 2 JOD 25 category boats in the running competed for the first time in the OSIRIS 2 class against 25 other competitors.
Summary of the three days:
- day 1: A very complicated day, the likes of which we’ve rarely seen in previous editions.
The Mistral wind arrived uninvited at the Juris’Cup, making sailing impossible on the first day. With an average wind speed of
40 knots on average and gusts of over 50 knots, not a single boat left the Vieux-Port that day. Although sailing was not possible, this exceptional situation enabled the Surveyors and students to share a rare moment of conviviality aboard the yachts. - day 2: The Mistral calmed sufficiently to allow a sail out. With plenty of wind and a technical course, this first race was hotly contested. The students from the ESGT sailing club, regulars in the EDHEC race, sailed a very good race. They came in ahead of the Surveyors, who didn’t make any major sailing errors.
- Last day: Nothing is decided yet, and the Géomètres-Experts are keen to set an example for future professionals.
The day got off to a great start with optimal conditions.
The ESGT-TERIA boat took the lead after better negotiating the Spinnaker hoist.
However, faced with the wind, the Surveyors finished very strongly with some good choices made by Benoît Maury, Géomètre-Expert and Co-Skipper this edition. The GE’s Jod 35 therefore won this heat: one to one, ball in the centre.
A GREAT PERFORMANCE
At the end of the 3 days of racing, the surveyors finished 2nd in the JOD 25 and 11th in the overall OSIRIS 2 ranking, followed by the ESGT students in 12th place.
The two boats were equal in terms of the number of races they sailed, and both put in a fine performance.
