The ESGTrail, a real success for the first edition
Thursday 17 February 2023 marked the launch of the ESGTrail, a student race co-organised by the Topo Sans Frontières (TSF) association and the ESGT Sports Office.
The aim: to raise funds for TSF to support future surveying missions in Madagascar and Guatemala.

Running for a good cause!
This year, Topo Sans Frontières has launched a new project: the ESGTrail, a charity race to raise funds to help students set off on their surveying missions in Madagascar and Guatemala.
To support them, the Sarthe department financed the equipment and prizes. TERIA, a long-standing partner, has decided to support this initiative by donating a sum of money for each kilometre covered (1 km covered = €1 donated by TERIA).
This charity race took place on the ESGT campus and brought together 92 participants in 46 teams. The teams were divided into 2 groups: the first consisting of 19 teams and the second of 27.
The first group set off at 15:00, and after a few minutes’ warm-up, the riders set off with determination, completing 311 laps in the allotted 30 minutes. at 15:45, it was the turn of the second group to set off, and the sprinters were there in greater numbers, clocking up 379 laps.
After 1 hour of intense physical effort, it was time for some comfort! Everyone got their strength back with some good pancakes and something to quench their thirst.
2,226.02 raised.
The runners were more than motivated to raise as much money as possible for TSF, and they put in a fine performance: a total of 690 laps were completed, and the ultimate threshold of 300 km was passed with 316.02 km covered, raising a total of €2,226.02.
The Topo Sans Frontières association
The Topo Sans Frontières (TSF) association at the ESGT (École Supérieure des Géomètres Topographes) was born of a student initiative. The aim of the students is to contribute their know-how for the benefit of a developing country.
Working in partnership with associations, NGOs, local training centres, governments and other institutions, TSF’s actions are part of a long-term humanitarian approach.
A surveyor is essential to the success of these projects.
Their role is to measure and demarcate the land by drawing up topographical plans to ensure that the terrain is properly modelled before work begins.
The surveyor’s expertise is therefore essential upstream of all development operations.
The first assignment was carried out in Madagascar in 2003 and involved topographic work to supply water to a village.
Every year, groups of student surveyors embark on this adventure to put their knowledge to good use, thereby contributing to the development of the country where the project is taking place. Over the past 20 years, the students have visited 8 countries: Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, Tunisia, Guatemala and Madagascar .

TERIA provides its data free of charge to the IGN’s RGP (Permanent GNSS Network) and contributes to scientific knowledge (meteorology, plate tectonics, etc.)
SPORT
TERIA supports up-and-coming French sportsmen and women, particularly athletes competing in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
