ESGTrail 2024:
BIGGER, MORE INVOLVED!
Thursday 21 MARCH 2024 was the second edition of the ESGTrail, a student race organised in collaboration between the Topo Sans Frontières (TSF) association and the ESGT Sports Office…
…The aim of the event was to raise funds for TSF to support its future surveying missions in Madagascar and Guatemala.
A COMMITTED RACE!
This year, Topo Sans Frontières ran the ESGTrail for the second time. The aim of this charity race is to raise funds for students on topographic missions abroad ,particularly in Madagascar and Guatemala.
To support them, several partners such as the Sarthe department and the MAIF helped to increase the scale of this second edition.
TERIA, a long-standing partner, has once again responded by supporting this unifying initiative. As well as providing equipment for each student, TERIA paid an amount for each kilometer completed by the students.
(1 km completed = €3 donated by TERIA).
As in 2023, this charity race took place on the ESGT campus, but with a modified and lengthened route. For this second edition, Topo Sans Frontières and the BDS invited students from the ENSIM and ISMANS engineering schools to join them in running for a good cause.
A total of 152 participants, divided into 76 teams, set off with the aim of completing as many kilometers as possible.
After 3 hours of collective effort, the runners met up for a well-deserved break, sharing fajitas and quenching their thirst after having outdone themselves, all in a superb atmosphere.
What’s more, to encourage and showcase the athletes’ outstanding performances, the students worked closely with local artisans and merchants to create attractive rewards. These include discount vouchers, tickets to top sporting and artistic events, and craft beer tastings.
The riders involved showed unfailing determination, taking turns on the track with efficiency. Their dedication resulted in a remarkable performance: in total, they completed 1320km for ESGT, testifying to their endurance and commitment to the cause.
This remarkable performance also had a significant financial impact, with fundraising totalling
1 570 € (1320€ financed by TERIA and 250€ financed by MAIF).
TOPO SANS FRONTIÈRES
The history of the Topo Sans Frontières (TSF) association, which grew out of a student initiative at the École Supérieure des Géomètres Topographes (ESGT), is a testament to the association’scommitment to the development of developing countries. In collaboration with various associations, NGOs, local training centres, governments and institutions, TSF makes a long-term commitment to humanitarian actions.
At the heart of these projects is the surveyor-topographer, whose intervention is essential. His expertise consists of measuring, modelling and delimiting the terrain with precision by producing topographical plans before work begins.
TSF’s first mission took place in 2003 in Madagascar, where topographical work was undertaken to improve a village’s water supply. Every year, groups of student surveyors join in the adventure, sharing their skills to contribute to the development of the host countries. Over the past 20 years, TSF has carried out missions in eight countries: Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, Tunisia, Guatemala and Madagascar.
