TERIA as a “société à mission”:
history and ambitions
This year, 6 of the 9 planetary limits were officially crossed*
Yet at the core of the Agenda 2030, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set out the vision of creating an ecologically safe and socially fair space for humanity. What tools can we adopt as a company to contribute to this transformation?
In addition to the usual recognition procedures, being a “Société à mission” is a demanding model. It is also a formidable tool for companies wishing to act for and with their ecosystem.
It enables them to develop a healthier, more respectful environment as part of a coherent, positive approach, while creating shared value.
Focus on TERIA, a committed company
since its creation, and has taken the formal step in 2021 of becoming a “Société à Mission. It humbly carries and deploys its “raison d’être”: “Acting together for responsible growth and sustainable development”
SOCIETE A MISSION
After more than 10 years of French research and building on the recommendations of the Notat-Sénard report published in 2018, the “société à mission” model was introduced into French law by the Pacte Act of 22 May 2019
This does not involve the creation of a new legal structure but a redefinition of the company as an innovative and responsible economic player in its contribution to common progress through social and environmental objectives.
The law proposes that the most committed companies add their “raison d’être” and social and environmental objectives to their articles of association (Article L210-10 of the French Commercial Code), which together will constitute their mission. This voluntary commitment implies an obligation of transparency via a double control. Firstly, by the Mission Committee, a new governance body, but also by an Independent Third Party with the power to revoke the status of “Société à Mission”.
The model is demanding and the scope for expression are immense.
This approach gives EXAGONE TERIA greater visibility to the general public, making sure we all understand that EXAGONE TERIA is a company working for a better society.
UNIFIED STRATEGY: COMMITTED TO THE FUTURE, UNITED IN ACTION
TERIA puts its expertise and managerial practices at the service of future generations in order to provide them with the best possible support.
Since its creation in 2005, 18 students have been welcomed and supported by the company. In 2023, 27% of the staff will be students, including Delphine ISAMBERT, a doctoral student at the Institut Polytechnique de Paris, who is preparing a thesis on “Hybridization algorithms for precise GNSS positioning”.
Employees also benefit from support to help them find their way, become more autonomous and drive their own development.
TERIA’s participative management approach removes barriers between different areas of knowledge and encourages cooperation.
POWERING ACTION: COLLABORATIVE EXCHANGES TO BUILD TRUST
The Quality of Life at Work survey carried out this year revealed a 95% recommendation rate for the company.
At TERIA, the values put forward as a “société à mission” provide resources that give meaning and support, catalysing professional and personal satisfaction.
TERIA is not just a high-performance GNSS network. It’s also a truly human network that runs cross-functional projects and fosters partnerships. This year the teams supported the ESGTrail, a charity race to raise funds for the student association Topo sans frontières.
The company also supports sportsmen and women at various events such as the JURIS’CUP and through partnerships such as with Paris Volleyball.
COMMITTED PLAYERS: THE SYMBIOSIS OF RESPECT FOR THE INDIVIDUAL AND ECOLOGICAL BALANCE
Protecting the biosphere means preserving a whole series of interconnected ecosystems.
For over 15 years, TERIA has continued one of its historic commitments by supporting scientific research. The aim is to protect endangered species and natural areas, particularly in the face of climate change.
The contribution of technical skills to missions such as Antarctica 2.0° in 2021 and the measurement of the Arcouzan glacier in 2023 will have enabled researchers to explore new avenues for safeguarding biodiversity, the key to the balance of our environment.
Aware of this major challenge, the entire team has been working for years to calculate its CO2 emissions, with the aim of anticipating rather than reacting.
MOBILISING OUR CORE BUSINESS TO WEAVE SOCIAL COHESION
TERIA is committed to long-term thinking. To achieve this, it develops and maintains a large number of partnerships.
Through its participation in the CNIG and its ongoing involvement in education, TERIA has been able to promote its knowledge.
The company also provides its data free of charge to the IGN’s RGP, contributing to the calculation of forecasts by météo France, the identification of exceptional events (e.g. the seismo-volcanic crisis in Mayotte) and the monitoring of sea levels.
Its regular appearances at events organised by the surveying profession and schools help to communicate its values and commitments.
These exchanges not only inform stakeholders, but also allow us to benefit from their feedback, as was the case at the end of 2022 at the ESTIA ” Space for Robots and Drones ” workshop.
FOR SEVERAL YEARS NOW, WE HAVE SEEN THE EMERGENCE OF A NUMBER OF TOOLS DESIGNED TO ATTEST TO THE EXTRA-FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE OF COMPANIES, BUT IN 2019, THE PACTE LAW MADE IT POSSIBLE TO “MAKE AN ESSENTIAL CONTRIBUTION TO RAISING AWARENESS OF THE SOCIAL AND SOCIETAL ROLE OF COMPANIES […] IN ADDITION TO THEIR ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL ROLE “*
THIS IS THE PATH TERIA HAS CHOSEN TO FOLLOW. ITS STATUS AS A SOCIETE A MISSION ENABLES IT TO PUT THE UNIQUENESS OF ITS MISSION AT THE SERVICE OF A HOLISTIC MODEL, IN PARTICULAR BY CONTRIBUTING – AT ITS OWN LEVEL – TO ACHIEVING 4 SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OBJECTIVES.
AT OUR LEVEL, WE CAN ALL FIND THE WAY TO GIVE BACK TO SOCIETY AND THE PLANET WHAT THEY OFFER US.
