1st edition of the Ordre des géomètres-experts’ eXpert Game
Thursday 14 March marks the launch of the first edition of the Ordre des Géomètres-Experts’ eXpert GAME.
… An exceptional event that brought together three leading engineering schools: ESTP, INSA Strasbourg and ESGT. Here’s a look back at the event.
eXpert Game 2019: surveyors in the making
The main aim of this major event was to enable participants to immerse themselves fully in the professional world of the surveyor-expert, a profession that is both technical and fast-moving.
The event was attended by no fewer than 300 students from France’s three leading surveying schools: École Spéciale des Travaux Publics (ESTP), INSA Strasbourg and École Supérieure des Géomètres et Topographes (ESGT). These young future professionals had the opportunity to discover, in a fun and interactive way, the many facets of their future profession.
The theme of the day was closely linked to the unique environment of the Cité de la Mode et du Design in Paris, where the immersion took place. This space, at the crossroads of creativity and innovation, provided an inspiring setting for exploring the challenges and practical applications of the surveying profession, from the design of development projects to digital modelling of territories and the new technologies used in topography.
The event enabled students to project themselves into their future roles, while giving them a realistic and exciting insight into the challenges and opportunities they will encounter in their careers.
The test, the “Cité de la mode et du design” by the students
The event kicked off with a keynote speech, followed by a presentation of the eXpert GAME by Jean-François DALBIN and Géraldine GIEN-LANCE.
For more than two hours, the participants were divided into groups to work on an urban planning issue unveiled the same day, in conjunction with the Cité de la Mode et du Design. Their mission: to completely re-imagine the district, as if they had been the original designers several years earlier. Each school was supervised and assessed by a jury comprising an educational advisor and a chartered surveyor, a former graduate of the school. The surveyors also acted as coaches, accompanying the students throughout the competition.
At the end of the exercise, each panel of judges selected a winning group, who were responsible for defending their school’s colours at the final presentation to the “Grand Jury”. This was an opportunity for the winners to showcase their work and proudly represent their school at the grand final.
INSA Strasbourg: first winner of the eXpert Game
INSA Strasbourg came out on top in this first edition of the competition, closely followed by ESTP and ESGT, who tied for second place. All the projects submitted were of high quality, demonstrating the seriousness and commitment of the participants. However, it was the INSA project that particularly captured the attention of the jury, thanks to its bold approach and striking realism, combining innovation and feasibility.
Jean BERTERRECHE, Chairman of TERIA, had the honour of presenting the awards to the winners at a ceremony marked by an inspiring speech. He stressed the importance of TERIA’s commitment to new generations and emerging talent, pointing out that the future of the profession depends on supporting and training the surveyors of tomorrow.
In addition to the first prize, TERIA was keen to reward the investment made by each school by offering each of them a cheque for €1,500 to support the activities of the students’ office. This financial recognition was intended to encourage students to get involved in rewarding initiatives that complement their academic training.
TERIA’s plus
TERIA added a touch of dynamism to the event with two activities that won over the students.
Each participant received a copy of the comic strip “FENICE” by the talented artist Virginio VONA. Present at the eXpert GAME, he hosted a signing session where everyone could leave with a personalised drawing, created live, while watching the artist at work.
A little further on, a Photo Studio workshop gave students the opportunity to take their own photos. Thanks to a green-screen animation, they could immerse themselves in settings illustrating the applications of high-precision geolocation.
The event ended on a convivial note, with a cocktail party bringing together students, judges, surveyors and partners, allowing everyone to share a moment of exchange and celebration.
The TERIA team would like to congratulate all the students and each school for their commitment and dynamism during this event.
